Couselling Process

Registration

After the declaration of JEE Advanced results, candidates who qualify the exam need to register for the counselling process on the official website (click here). They must provide their personal and academic details and create a login ID and password.

Choice Filling and Locking 

Once registered, candidates need to fill their preferred choices of courses and IITs. They can select from the available options and arrange them in the order of their preference. It is important to carefully consider the choices based on their eligibility and interest. After filling the choices, candidates must lock their preferences before the specified deadline.

Seat Allotment

Based on the choices filled by the candidates, their All India Rank (AIR), and the availability of seats, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts the seat allotment process. JoSAA is the governing body responsible for coordinating the counselling and seat allocation for IITs and other participating institutes. Candidates are allotted seats in the respective courses and institutes, and the seat allotment result is announced on the official website.

Reporting to the Allotted Institute 

Candidates who are allotted seats must report to the respective IITs for further admission procedures. They need to complete the required formalities, including document verification and payment of fees. Candidates must carry their original documents, allotment letter, and other necessary certificates as specified by the institutes.

Seat Acceptance and Freezing

After reporting to the allotted institute, candidates have the option to either accept the allotted seat or participate in subsequent rounds of counselling for better options. If a candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat, they can accept it by paying the seat acceptance fee. They also have the option to freeze the allotted seat, indicating that they do not wish to participate in further rounds of counselling.

Subsequent Rounds of Counselling

If a candidate wishes to participate in further rounds of counselling, they can do so during subsequent rounds. They can upgrade their choices based on the availability of seats and their preference. The process of choice filling, seat allotment, and reporting to the allotted institute will be repeated in each round.

Documents Required 

For Candidates seeking admission under the GEN-EWS category:

  • GEN-EWS certificate (FORM-GEN-EWS) should have been issued on or after April 01, 2023, in accordance with the latest guidelines of the Government of India.
  • If a GEN-EWS candidate fails to submit the GEN-EWS certificate at the time of online registration, they need to upload a declaration [Declaration in Lieu of GEN-EWS Certificate] stating the same.

For Candidates seeking admission under the OBC-NCL category:

  • OBC-NCL certificate (FORM-OBC-NCL) should have been issued on or after April 01, 2023, following the latest guidelines of the Government of India.
  • If an OBC-NCL candidate fails to submit the OBC-NCL certificate at the time of online registration, they need to upload a declaration [Declaration in Lieu of OBC-NCL Certificate]. Visit http://www.ncbc.nic.in for the latest guidelines and updates on the Central List of State-wise OBCs.

For Candidates seeking admission under the SC or ST category:

  • Caste certificate (FORM-SC/ST) as per the latest guidelines of the Government of India.

For Candidates seeking admission under the PwD category:

  • Physical Disability certificate (Unique Disability Identification (UDID) Certificate or FORM-PwD [II/III/IV, whichever is applicable]) issued by the notified medical authority.
  • Dyslexic candidates need to submit FORM-DYSLEXIC 1 and DYSLEXIC2 instead of FORM-PwD. The certificate must mention 'SEVERE' under the Dyslexia category.
  • Individual IITs constitute medical boards at the time of admission to assess the candidate's level of disability. The opinion of the medical board is final, and based on that, the benefit of the PwD category may be allowed or withheld.

For candidates opting for compensatory time:

  • They need to submit a letter to the Chairperson of the nearest Zonal Coordinating IIT by filling FORM-COMPENSATORY TIME-I/II, along with the necessary certificates.

For Candidates needing the services of a scribe:

  • They need to submit a request letter to the Chairperson of the nearest Zonal Coordinating IIT by filling FORM-SCRIBE-I/II, along with the necessary certificates.

For Candidates seeking admission under the DS category:

  • They need to provide a certificate (FORM-DS) issued by the respective record offices of Armed Forces Personnel.

For candidates whose Class XII Examination Board is outside India or not listed:

  • They need to provide a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities stating that the examination qualified by the candidate is equivalent to the Class XII examination.
