Engineering Job Crisis for Graduates: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had revoked the recognition of four major deemed universities in the country a few years ago. These universities were offering distance education programs, through which employees from various departments in the state obtained engineering degrees.
Engineering graduates from the country’s four deemed universities are now facing job uncertainties. AICTE had withdrawn the recognition of these deemed universities. Subsequently, Additional Chief Secretary Nitin Ramesh Gokarn has sent a report of these engineers deployed in the state’s development authorities and housing development to the AICTE for review. The scrutiny of their degrees has begun, and these engineers who graduated from these universities might soon face termination from their positions. Many engineers who earned diplomas from these universities obtained BE degrees here for promotion. Through this, they also secured jobs in the housing department.
Many engineers who obtained degrees from these universities have lost recognition in various development authorities of the state. These engineering graduates are currently employed, but their degrees have been canceled as AICTE has withdrawn recognition. Preparation for action against such engineers is underway, and Additional Chief Secretary Nitin Ramesh Gokarn issued orders in this regard on January 24, 2024.
Awaiting the Report
He has written to the member secretary of the All India Council for Technical Education asking for a report on the degrees of engineers deployed in various authorities and housing development. After the council’s report arrives, these engineers will be removed from their jobs. The number of such engineers in the state is said to be more than 150.
Job Crisis for Graduates from These Universities
The All India Council for Technical Education had canceled the recognition of students studying here along with the recognition of four deemed universities in the country in 2017. AICTE had canceled the recognition of distance education system of Jaipur Rajasthan Vidyapeeth Udaipur Rajasthan, IASE Sardar Rajasthan, AAI Allahabad, and BMRIT Salem Tamil Nadu. AICTE had also revoked the degrees of these candidates. As soon as the report of the All India Technical Education Council arrives, the services of these engineers will be terminated. The campus of Rajasthan Open University in the capital used to operate near Pratibha Cinema. Here, engineers from LDA and other authorities used to obtain BE degrees sitting at home.
Failed Joint Survey Examination
With the withdrawal of recognition of these deemed universities, the central government had given an opportunity to those who obtained degrees from them. According to information, they had to pass the joint survey examination of AICTE, UGC. This exam was for engineering. It assessed the capabilities related to the same subject. But engineers deployed in authorities could not pass this exam. As a result, they are in crisis.
