A Graduate aptitude test is conducted to evaluate applicants’ thorough understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture, as well as both undergraduate and postgraduate level subjects in Arts, Commerce, and Science.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology jointly administer GATE (namely, IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee). The Organising Institute (OI) is one of the administering institutes and is responsible for the end-to-end process as well as overall coordination among the administering institutes for conducting the GATE Examination. The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) is the host institution for GATE.
The GATE 2024 examination is held in cities across India as well as in selected cities in Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. The exam would be a computer-based exam (CBT)

Eligibility Criteria For GATE 2024
A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2024 exam.
If a candidate is pursuing any higher degree or has already obtained a higher degree, the candidate will be allowed to appear for the GATE 2024 examination.
The candidates with B.Sc. / B.A. / B.Com. degrees desirous to seek admission for master’s programs in IITs may refer to the JAM-2024 Examination.
GATE 2024 Application Process
Application for GATE 2024 must be submitted ONLINE on the website (https://gate.iitk.ac.in) by paying the necessary application fees. The photograph, signature, category certificate (SC / ST / PwD), and/or Dyslexic certificate, wherever applicable, must be uploaded during the online application. Candidates MUST enter the valid photo identity (ID) number specified in any one of the following IDs:
- Aadhaar-UID (preferable),
- Passport,
- PAN Card,
- Voter ID
- Driving License.
The candidates, who do not possess any of these identity cards, may please procure any one of them before making the application. Candidates must produce the SAME original valid photo ID proof during the examination for verification purposes. In the absence of the SAME original valid photo ID proof, the candidate will NOT be allowed to appear for the GATE 2024 examination.
GATE 2024 Admit Card
Admit cards can only be downloaded from the GATE 2024 website. Admit Cards will not be mailed or sent as an e-mail attachment.
Candidates should bring a printed copy of the available for download Admit Card on A4 paper to the Examination for verification, as well as the original and valid photo Identity Document (NO photocopy / scanned copy / an expiration date document), as stipulated during the online application process. (for example Aadhaar-UID, Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, and Driving License).
The candidate’s photograph and signature images must be clear and legible for the Admit Card to be valid. The photograph on the Admit Card and the photograph in the valid photo identity document SHOULD MATCH the candidate’s appearance on the day of the examination. To do so, print the Admit Card on A4 paper with a laser printer, preferably in color. The GATE 2024 Admit Card as well as the original ID proof are required for entry into the examination hall.

Q. How do I make the fee payment for GATE 2023 examination?
A. The payment option will appear after filling the online application form in GATE 2023 website. The candidate can opt for any of the payment options listed over there. The additional charges such as service charges, processing fees or bank charges, have to be borne by the candidate.
Q. Is there any age limit to appear for GATE 2023?
A. NO. There is no age limit to appear for GATE 2023.
Q. Are there any restrictions on the number of times one can appear for GATE?
A. Candidates can appear for the GATE examination any number of times.
Q.Can candidate appear in any of the GATE 2023 papers?
A. Although, the candidate is free to choose any of the papers [up to two from the given combinations], candidate should select paper appropriate to the discipline of qualifying degree.
Q. What is the fee for candidates with foreign nationality in the GATE 2023 Examination?
A. For the candidates with foreign nationality, who wish to appear for GATE 2023 examination, the application fee is Rs. 1700/- for Female Candidate, Rs. 8263 (USD 100) for SC/ST PWD Candidates and Rs. 16,523/- For other Candidates.
